About Charlie
Charlie Lovell-Jones debuted at a sold-out Royal Festival Hall aged 15. An international soloist and critically-acclaimed concertmaster of the Sinfonia of London, he won top prizes at Oxford University and the Royal Academy of Music. He studied for eleven years with Rodney Friend MBE, and two years with Augustin Hadelich at the Yale School of Music. He has many competition successes, and enjoys a busy international concert and recording schedule. He treasures opportunities to connect with audiences, and enjoys exploring classical music's 21st-Century capabilities. Charlie plays a fine 1777 G.B. Guadagnini violin on loan from a generous benefactor.
"Charlie... was spell-binding with wonderful control and tone and technical ability"
- West Wight Arts Association

“even the most dazzling passages are quicksilver in brilliance and not attention-seeking in a flashy sense. [The] lyrical impulse is sensitively maintained throughout and unified the score’s symphonic underpinning with unobtrusive mastery.”
Geraint Lewis, Gramophone Magazine
“Lovell-Jones despatches every technical demand thrown at him with apparent ease… some dazzlingly jaw-dropping moments from Lovell-Jones… with a terrific searching tone…”
James Longstaffe, Presto Music
“There is more competition among recordings here, but soloist Charlie Lovell-Jones and Wilson have quicksilver virtuosity and orchestral clarity on their side.”
Richard Fairman, Financial Times
“… fluid, pliant and richly expressive… with energy and joie de vivre. … He [Lovell-Jones] is rich and dancing in the finale, sometimes light as a will-o’-the-wisp, at others fizzing with intoxicating energy.”
Tim Homfray, Strad Magazine
“Charlie Lovell-Jones plays on our heart-strings just as fluently as he does on those of his very fine Guadagnini. The dreamy main theme is lavishly portrayed to maximum effect. … an auspicious concerto debut recording from the young violinist”
James Longstaffe, Presto Music
“… this is as fine a performance as you will hear.”
Nick Barnard, MusicWebInternational
“Charlie Lovell-Jones is a terrific violinist.”
David Hurwitz, The Ultimate Classical Music Guide
“Lovell-Jones brings a singing intensity of tone… signalling a strong, focused interpretive temperament. … Lovell-Jones’ sharp-edged virtuosity brings both combustibility and caprice to the mercurial middle movement.”
Terry Blain, BBC Music Magazine
“… I would have no hesitation in choosing this as one of the most recommended performances [of Walton Violin Concerto]…”
Ian Orbell, Classical Music Sentinel
“…Lovell-Jones pitches his performance perfectly…”
Nick Barnard, MusicWebInternational
"Soloist Charlie Lovell-Jones captures the work's pastoral essence with heartfelt affection, his lyrical interpretation finding perfect partnership with the BBC Philharmonic's sympathetic accompaniment. … Lovell-Jones navigates the gorgeous melodic passages with beautiful lyricism, whilst the energetic third movement sees all performers delivering rhythmical energy with aplomb.”
Andrew Palmer, Chimeo
“After his magnificent debut with Walton… Charlie Lovell-Jones now consolidates his reputation abundantly…”
Geraint Lewis, Gramophone Magazine

"...strings divided to create a textural haze, with elegant solos from the orchestra’s youthful leader, Charlie Lovell-Jones..."
- Fiona Maddocks, The Guardian
"The slow movement [of Rachmaninoff Symphony No. 3] is beautifully done...with Charlie Lovell-Jones’s violin solos later especially enticing."
- Colin Anderson, ColinsColumn
"... not simply there to perform, but to be completely entwined with the whole piece and the whole orchestra ... the mastery that Mr Lovell-Jones brought to [his solos] made them seem almost easy."
- Sally Perry, OnTheWight
"He never wavered, and he was outstanding. He had the orchestra and the audience in the palm of his hand throughout. The quality and clarity of his playing was so exquisite that I completely lost track of the time passing..."
- Jonathan Dodd, OnTheWight
